Traveling Safe
Many years ago, my husband
and I took our marriage vows. We exchanged rings and went on living our married
life creating many joyful memories. Thus, our rings are keepsakes to us.
Years have gone by and we find
ourselves wanting to travel a little bit. Whether it's to the next town, next
state, or out of the country, we find that travel now a days can be stressful.
Why stressful? With travel, there is packing the right items and clothing, finding room for what we want to bring with, making sure our items stay safe, making sure the car is in top shape to travel, getting to an airport on time, making sure we have all the right documents with us, making sure we have money with, making sure we had the proper vaccines before leaving, making sure all the reservations are in and processed, making sure all the tickets are with us, and making sure our personal items and ourselves are safe while traveling.
Well with travel being huge in
2026, and theft also a huge deal, my husband and I had wondered if I should be
wearing any kind of jewelry while traveling? This thought isn't just for
traveling out of the country. It's for traveling in the large cities in the
USA.
Just recently I had read about some men going up to women in this popular USA city and punching them in the face to
grab their gold necklace.
When theft goes up in
countries, it tells me a bit about their economy.
My husband's thought was to
lock up our rings. I thought about that. Then I had the idea of making wedding
rings to wear when we travel.
This brings me back to a summer selling my Cyn Jewelry out of state. I had a man come up to me asking if
I had any rings to sell. He told me he wanted to propose to his girlfriend and
did not have a ring. I felt so full of joy for the newly engaged couple. I was pretty honored to
help out the couple.
Some of you would say,
"Just buy cheap jewelry if you want to wear rings or other jewelry!" My experience with
cheap jewelry is that it contains heavy metals, turns your finger green or
black and all in all is unhealthy to wear.
Here are our newly created wedding rings. I made them from solid Sterling silver wire. I make jewelry using the ancient technique of Wire-Wrapping. Wire-Wrapping does not use soldering or molten metal. You just use your wire skills.
My husband's ring is a
simple band. He can wear his band with the wire-wrapping on the top of his hand or underneath where no one is able to see the wire-wrapping.
My ring has one stone of Nephrite Jade. I usually enjoy Jade with gold, but I had decided we'd wear silver.
Sterling silver is quite a bit more inexpensive than gold. I could of used gold-filled wire (I do not use gold-plate. It's not worth the money), but again it is quite a bit more expensive and when wet, the cut ends may turn black. Silver on the other hand will tarnish.
It still would be an unenjoyable experience to have our rings stolen from us. But at least these rings are not our keepsake rings and they did not cost me too much to make.
So, the next time you want to
travel, either leave the jewelry at home or make yourself some jewelry to wear.
